Volume Twenty-Seven is about what people are told, and by whom. A repair shop that was encouraging and then couldn't; an operating system whose prompts led somewhere its owner didn't want to go; a recovery key held safely and refused anyway; a health check that means two different things; a warranty that replaces the device and not the data. Alongside them, the people who got it right: an owner who tested a slot with a spare drive, another who read his drive's own figures and stopped, a woman who spent a year rebuilding a jumbled recovery — and, at case 1350, a man who searched for what had happened rather than how to fix it, and put the device down.
