// in short

We bring the lab to your door.

A recovery turns on the engineer and the equipment, not the miles. A next-day courier leaves every UK postcode one box away from both.

// the address

One address covers the whole country.

It starts with where to post it — so here's the address, right up front.

Send your parcel to Guildford Data Recovery, Building 2, Ground Floor, Guildford Business Park, Guildford GU2 8XH, by any tracked, insured courier or Royal Mail service. Tuck a note inside with your name, postal address, email and phone — or print our shipping slip and enclose that. That note books your device in the instant it lands.

Unless the fault involves them, keep caddies, cables and power supplies at home: an external drive's whole enclosure helps, but bare drives, sticks and cards need nothing else.

// what travels well

How to pack, by device type.

A minute's care here removes the transit risk entirely.

Single drives and SSDs want a rigid box and packing that stops all movement — bubble wrap round the drive, filler round the wrap. RAID and NAS disks should each be labelled with their bay or slot number and kept separate so none touch; the controller and chassis can usually stay with you. Cards and USB sticks ride fine taped to a piece of card in a padded envelope; with a snapped stick, bag both halves together. And a water-damaged drive breaks the rule: seal it in a bag while still damp, since it's the drying that sets off the corrosion.

// after it arrives

What happens at the Guildford end.

Nothing proceeds until you've signed it off.

Once it lands, your device is logged in and enters the diagnostic queue, with a free assessment inside 48 hours. A written quote comes next, laying out what failed, what can be saved and the precise price, and most jobs are no fix, no fee. Drive-level physical repairs like head swaps or board rebuilds carry a 50% deposit toward donor parts and bench time, the balance falling due only once your data is back. When it's finished, your files return on new media, the return method agreed as part of the quote.

And if you're torn between posting and finding somewhere closer: a good deal of ‘local’ recovery is postal anyway — plenty of shops that take a drive across the counter quietly send it on to a specialist lab. Posting it yourself just removes the middle step.

// sending your device in

Just two steps.

Post your device for a free diagnostic and tell us a bit about what happened — an engineer reviews it and confirms your exact quote in writing before any work starts.

1

Send us your device

Recovering your data starts with getting the device to us. Pack it safely, slip your contact details inside, and post it over — once the free diagnostic's done, we'll confirm your exact price in writing before any work begins.

How to pack it
  • Box the device up in a small, sturdy carton or a padded envelope.
  • You can leave out caddies, cables and power supplies — none of them are needed for the recovery.
  • Pop your details inside — name, address, phone and email, on a slip of paper or via our shipping form — and seal it up.

// questions

Answered before you ask.

Less than you'd expect. Powered down, a drive's read heads rest clear of the platters, so everyday transit knocks never touch the data surfaces. Secure it well in a stiff box, choose a tracked and insured service, and it turns up exactly as it left — drives land at the bench like this every working day.

The free diagnostic is completed within 48 hours of your device landing, and the written quote afterward includes a timeframe for the recovery work. A single drive usually comes back in days, while servers and RAID sets take longer, and truly urgent jobs can be flagged when you make contact.

Distance changes nothing. Memory cards and USB sticks run £250 + VAT; a single drive — internal, external, laptop or Mac — is £300 + VAT; while multi-disk RAID, NAS and server jobs are quoted once the free diagnostic's done. The complete breakdown is on our pricing page.

Certainly — if you're close by, bring it to Building 2, Ground Floor in Guildford on any weekday from 9am to 5:30pm. The postal option is there for everyone else: the same bench, the same engineers, the same prices, however your device gets to us.
