The decode: what those two messages each mean
What "the parameter is incorrect" reports: the system read a structure describing a file or folder and found a field whose value makes no sense — a length longer than the volume, a starting position outside the disk, a date that cannot exist, a count of entries that contradicts the space they occupy. It is not complaining about something you did. It is reporting that the description it read is internally impossible, and refusing to act on it.
Why that is a useful message: it means the structure was read successfully and its contents are wrong — as opposed to a region that could not be read at all. The drive returned data; the data is nonsense. That points at damaged structures on working media rather than at a failing surface, which is a materially better position.
What the second message means: "corrupted and unreadable" is the more general form — the system could not make a usable directory out of what it found, without specifying why. It appears alongside the first because they are two views of the same damage.
