The decode: what a dock adds to the path, and what the report means
What a docking station actually is: a bridge board, a power supply, and a connector that a bare drive is pushed into. All three are failure points, and none of them are inside the drive. A dock delivers power from its own adapter, translates the drive's interface to the computer's, and holds the electrical connection through a socket that has nothing supporting it.
